Some piano makers used to design their actions to be firmer than average like Kawai. But funny thing is some were firm because of mistakes, not intentional choices.

Today, most new piano brands, like YAMAHA, have specs for a medium firmness, requiring less effort.

I prefer Yamaha piano - probably because I've always practiced on YAMAHA, and the Kawai touch is definitely too heavy for my hands. I just find I'm working to hard to play as well as I can play. To those who have learned on a heavier action, Kawai will be their preference. There's no right or wrong, but it's definitely Yamaha for me. I've never felt any Kawai touch as agile as I would like, is that interesting
