The piano I learned on was a YAMAHA upright (model U1). After our kids all left home, my folks moved the piano to a storage room. It suffered some mishaps: A leak in the room above, poor air quality (cooking grease and cigarette smoke), careless painters, and the ever-present mildew problem. After we brought out the piano. The first thing I did was look inside the bottom pf the piano. There are bits of wood inside the case. Because the smell was giving me a headache, I threw out the mothballs. There are black spots of mold/mildew inside, on both wood and metal. I'll have to find something else to protect the wool felt in the piano.

5-year, it’s enough to damage or destroy a piano if the piano is near waterpool and heater is off. Show you two pianos in bad condition |

I want to know what the piano will become if the piano heater is totally off for a long time, say for 10 years

It sounds interesting. Piano in Singapore should be well maintanained, otherwise it will "get sick".

I don't think renewable mini dehumidifier is workable for a piano.
Just like most absorption dehumidifiers, the moisture drips through into a collection tank that you have to empty, the absorbtion of water makes the inside of the piano even wetter and worse. To keep the piano inside dry and protect the piano from moisture, the best is to install the piano heater inside and keep the heater on 24 hours, which will get the moisture out of the piano (moisture desorption). In some wet envorienments, some piano even need 2x piano heaters to keep it dry inside. |

Why the stains and mould near renewable mini dehumidifier much more than the other place in the piano? I think it should be much better, but after use that for a year, it looks even worse.
