I can’t afford to own an acoustic because of living in a shared condo. Any model with headphones is good for me. If I need to practice on an acoustic piano, there is a upright piano in the community center near my place.

Most people indicate the main difference between digital and upright is the sound quality.

Digital Piano: The sound is generated by prerecorded samples coming off the speakers which is a directional sound.

Acoustic Piano: The vibration of the strings fills the room in a different way.

As for the touch of the keys, let’s take YAMAHA brand for example, a YAMAHA digital is very close to a Yamaha upright but you can tell it's not 100% matched and the sound is definitely not the same.

I think the main issue is the music that you played. If the music requires extremely fine gradations of touch, fine subtleties in the use of the damper pedal, volume and particularly, acoustic piano is the best choice.

The sound of digital piano is too virtual, I think it's a toy but not a real piano. I can not get the feeling of "playing piano" on a digital piano
